Sporty ‘Versatility of Milk’ Illustration wins Welsh Dairy Show Art Competition

A poster illustrating athletes drinking milk whilst running, with the caption ‘Milk is the best drink’, has been chosen as the winner of this year’s Welsh Dairy Show ‘Versatility of Milk’ art competition.

The overall winner, chosen from the hundreds of entries from across Wales, was Gruff Jones, aged 10, from Ysgol Gynradd Llangadog in Carmarthenshire.

The second-place winner was Megan Rees, aged 9, again from Ysgol Gynradd Llangadog in Carmarthenshire. Joint third place was awarded to Ella Jones, 11 years old, from Ysgol Carreg Emlyn, Ruthin and Sophie Walters, 10 years old, from Waunarlwydd Primary School, Waunarlwydd, Swansea.

The winner receives a year’s supply of Carmarthenshire Cheese, £50 and a sports drinks bottle. The winning school, Ysgol Gynradd Llangadog, also receives £100. Second place all-Wales winner receives £35, a sports drinks bottle and a certificate. Both the third-place winners will receive sports drinks bottles, certificates and £15 each.

The overall winners were chosen from the finalists from each county that entered. Certificates and sports drinks bottles will also be sent to these finalists, from across Wales:

  • Amelia Ross, added 10, from Ysgol Pen-y-groes, Carmarthenshire
  • Fflur Morgan, aged 7, from Rhyd-y-Felin, Drefach, Llanybydder, Ceredigion
  • Elen Morgan, aged 10, from Rhyd-y-Felin, Drefach, Llanybydder, Ceredigion
  • Caio, aged 10 and Roxi aged 7, from Ysgol Yr Eifl, Trefor, Caernarfon, Gwynedd
  • Tiffany James-Davies, aged 7, from Ysgol Dyffryn Cledlyn, Drefach, Ceredigion
  • Elen Sisto-Jones, aged 7, from Ysgol Dyffryn Cledlyn, Drefach, Ceredigion

Mair James, Organiser of the Welsh Dairy Show said,

“Thank you to all the school pupils for your fantastic drawings. We will put every entry on display at the Welsh Dairy Show on Tuesday, 24 October, for visitors to see their amazing efforts. I would also like to thank teachers for taking the time to discuss the value of milk whilst encouraging your students to enter the competition.”

The President of this year’s Show, Mansel Raymond, who farms at Jordanston hall, Haverfordwest, will present the winning school, Ysgol Gynradd Llangadog, their prize of £100 at approximately 12.30pm in the main ring at the Show on Nantyci Showground, Carmarthen.

Following the Award presentation, the children will take part in a cookery workshop with Lisa Fearn from Carmarthenshire’s Pumpkin Patch kitchen and garden school. Lisa will help the children make their very own pizzas with a cheese topping.
